Understanding the challenge
One of our gas distribution network clients engaged us to provide specialist training for their asset leads in preparation for their RIIO-3 regulatory submission. With many team members new to regulatory submissions, there was a clear need to upskill their knowledge of regulatory requirements, assurance processes, and best practices to ensure a smooth and compliant submission.
Our approach and implementation
We designed and delivered a tailored assurance training programme, which included:
- 1:1 coaching and data review: Personalised sessions with individuals responsible for producing basis of calculation documents, helping them refine methodologies and improve data accuracy.
- Interactive assurance workshop: A workshop for the team conducting first-line assurance and ‘business expert’ roles. This focused on effective audit techniques, drawing from our client's good practice and industry-wide regulatory guidance (including Data Assurance Guidance and RIIO regulatory frameworks).
By leveraging existing good practice and incorporating insights from other industry submissions, we provided a comprehensive and practical training experience.
Impact and outcomes delivered
There was a significant boost in knowledge and confidence, with attendees gaining a deeper understanding of regulatory requirements, assurance best practices, and data population processes.
91% of those who attended the 1:1 coaching sessions reported an increased confidence in undertaking their role.
By equipping our client with the necessary skills and insights, we helped strengthen their regulatory submission process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in their RIIO-3 data submissions.
